I hope they will. I think it would be a significant step forward. If they did, other states might stop letting their knees knock together & try to pull themselves out of the 19th century. It's time to stop denying people the rights they deserve.

OK - so what's the answer to that? No state is going to mandate that any private religous institution perform a wedding ceremony for two people of the same sex. There are some who will do that but regardless, why should those or marriages via civil ceremony (NOT civil union) NOT be legally recognized by all states?

The Supreme Court should legalize gay marriage across the union so that it can finally be put to rest and we can move onto the next inane platform issue that diverts attention away from the real, more pressing, socio-political concerns. This one is getting a little stale.

My thots exactly. There is precedent for this as well with the Loving Vs Virginia case in June 1967 that made it legal for interracial marriages in all the US (17 states at the time had laws against it)
I know a lot of blacks don't like comparing gay rights with racial civil rights, but it is the same prejudice that denies rights to a group of ppl.
