Do you think Michelle's anti-obesity campaign is productive or largely a waste of time?

Waste of time.

Not far removed from "just say no". People are gonna do what they're gonna do. Total waste of time.

I was about to post that. Just seems like the sort of dainty little "cause" a first lady would take up to fill her time, and to get some PR.

It is a horrible waste of time. We all know by now why people get fat. Haranging about it isn't going to help. People these days are very protective of their rights to do whatever they want with their kids, so the First Lady nattering about healthy food isn't going to change anything.

Do that many people want to eat apples instead of fries?

The whole thing is just so glossy, plastic and dismissable. It really is the modern day equivalent to Nancy Reagan's whole "Just Say No!" campaign.

If it proves to be productive, we wouldn't know for a long time. I like her motivation and everything so if it is or not.....whatever. At least she tried.

Much as I don't want to knock it, the whole thing comes off very disposable and futile to me. It's like someone told her that, as first lady, she needs to lend her name to a cause to make the nightly news and they just picked obesity from the lottery.

No more a waste of time than Lady Bird Johnson's Highway Beutification Act, Rosalyn Carter's council on mental health intiative (scrapped as soon as Ronald Reagan took office), Nancy Reagan's "Just Say No" or Laura Bush and national literacy.
