Hi all,

I just saw this for the first time a few weeks and I really liked it! I was especially impressed with Paul Newman's, William Holden's and Fred Astaire's performances. Steve McQueen? Eh, not so much. The women's performances (Jennifer Jones, Faye Dunaway) weren't too impressive either. You'd think, with those several floors on fire like that, that the building would collapse, but that's just a thought. Anyway, great film.

Has anybody seen this?

One of my favorite films, I like it a LOT more than The Poseidon Adventure, and I liked Steve McQueen in it, originally they were going to make HIM the architect, but he didn't want to do that, and I can't see it either, I think it worked better the way they did it. And the acting may not be much, but I say you have to commend the guy on doing his own stunts, being tied down and having about 70,000 gallons of water pour down on him, some guys have broken their necks with less than that.

bump

This is definitely one movie Hollywood needs to leave the hell alone and NOT remake it. There's already a backlash from some people on that it reminds them too much of 9/11, which I don't really get, but what made this movie so good was that it was so REAL. They were REALLY setting 70 built sets on fire and burning them down, they were REALLY setting their stunt people on fire and had 30 seconds to film before they had to put them out, it was real, the threat was real, the danger was real, if they did it TODAY it would all be CGI effects and totally crap, you can be sure of that.

Never liked it all that much. Or The Poseidon Adventure. From what I've read Steve McQueen was kind of a dick.

Aren't they all? big grin

Though something I read, because they were actually setting sets on fire and burning them down, they had firemen on the set to make sure it stayed controlled, and every actor had his own fireman assigned to him. One day during filming, a real fire broke out and Steve McQueen found himself working alongside one of the real firemen and he said 'my wife's never going to believe this' and the fireman replied 'neither is mine!' laughing

Is it me or does nobody else see the resemblance? But that's cool for him, keeping the tradition of acting alive in the family.

There is definetly a resemblance, I can see it. His grandfather was blonde and blue eyed while this boy is dark hair and brown eyed, probably from his mother but the family resemblance is there.

If you hadn't said anything I probably wouldn't have noticed. I think it's more from the power of suggestion. Did you know his father was in The Karate Kid?
