| Hi all,
I've been to three funerals in my lifetime and I do believe in wearing something conservative and respectful like a long skirt or slacks in dark colors or just plain black when going to a funeral. At my Grandma's funeral, one of my cousins (who could only pop in for a second and then had go to work) was wearing khaki shorts and a grey t-shirt. I thought that was disrespectful.
How about you - How many funerals have you gone to? And do you believe in wearing black to funerals?

| I have never been to a funeral in my life, and I do believe black is respectful but not necessarily required. Just so long as they don't look like Clint Eastwood's grandkids in Gran Torino I think it's fine. | |

| The last funeral I was to was a very good family friend's mother (segue from the non-family brother/sister thread). In fact I was a pallbearer. I own one suit and it's dark grey. Close enough. | |

| I am not a suit person so whatever one I have at the time is what I wear. When my stepfather died it was a light brown 3-piece suit.
The first funeral I attended as an adult with a great aunt whom I really liked and she happened to die while I was home on leave. I was a pallbearer and wore my Air Force dress blue uniform.
Now I don't even own a suit. I have a dark blue dress jacket and matching dark slacks - that will have to do.
However, as casual as I am and tho it is my normal attire, I would never pop into a funeral wearing a T-shirt & shorts.

| I have been to four funerals in my life. I believe I have worn black, but the last one I didn't. I just wore a dress that was conservative. I don't think black is mandatory for a funeral, but "subtle" is. | |

| I've been to quite a few funerals. And basically, I just dressed conservative. At my grandmother's funeral, I wore a navy and white dress. I don't think you have to wear black. Dark colors may be more 'appropriate', but I think the main thing is dressing conservatively. | |

| I have been to a lot of funerals. I believe that you should dress conservatively and not wear anything flashy out of respect for the deceased's family. | |

I don't think black is necessary, but it's safe.

| Like others have said, conservative is the must do. I don't always wear black. But I have only been to a few funerals. I mostly just go to the wake. | |
