Since I am older, I really wonder why there are people in their 40's who still use the "younger" nick names to their names.

To me, some of them should cease in the 20's...agree or disagree?

That would depend on the nickname but for the most part I would say no, it shouldn't.

Not really. I don't think it should end. I'm 27 and my aunt and uncle has been calling me Tootsie since I was born. I don't mind it.

No offense, but that doesn't make any sense. What is a younger nick name? What if someone's first name is Katie, Joey or Niki? Should they change it?

I agree for the most part. Women I think can get away with it much better than a man. I'm fine with a 40-something Jenny or Katie, but a man that age still being called "Timmy" sounds juvenile & silly IMO.

My original California Birth Certificate had my name as "Bobbie!"

Even if my mom had said "I want to name him Bobby" they should have inquired if she meant Robert.

Anyhow, I had it legally changed to Robert at 19 and a few years later took the nickname Rob - not Bob. (This was before Rob Lowe was even born - more like Rob Reiner)

So, had I stayed with my original legal name, I would be Bobby to this day - not Robert. And, it is possible that Mr. Thornton's name really is Billy-Bob.

Nick names for ppl over 20 are fine. Some of us refuse to grow up and become official "Mr. Adult." While I disagree with the saying only ppl under 30 use, "Age is just a #" I do believe that "You are as young as you think."

I disagree. They shouldn't stop using nicknames just because they're an adult. What difference does it make? If they're comfortable with their nickname, it's not a big deal. My Mom has been calling me Peanut all my life and will continue to do so - I don't mind it.

Yeah, there are places in this world where some old ppl still know me as Bobby. Young ppl there know me as Uncle Bob.

My wife called me Bookie (I may be one of the few white guys with that pet name).

My grandkids call me Opa (No biggie in Germany, but where did two black kids in Fl come up with that?)

I think it depends on the name in question. Agree with Femme fatale about how women get away with it easier than men.

I think a grown Jimmy, Tommy, Stevie, Johnny works. But Bobby, Joey, Mikey, Timmy, Sneezy, Dopey, Grumpy all sound pretty childish on an adult.
