What's your opinion of NC-17 rated movies? Often times they'll get cut enough so that they can obtain a marketable 'R' rating, because NC-17 flicks don't get promoted and often are rejected by theaters. Would you be okay with NC-17 films having more mainstream acceptance/exposure?

It wouldn't bother me. A theater just needs to do its job & I don't see a big deal. The one I go to strictly enforces the cell phone ban so they could handle this too.

I don't care. I don't watch these movies anyway. People have plenty of access to them methinks.

NC-17 movies definitely aren't given a fair shake. sad The movie industry can be very puritanical in ways, and I'd love to se the MPAA dismantled.

I understand some of the points of NC-17 fans. But IMO, if there was really that much of a market for them, movie theaters would WANT to get them.

Would be fine with me. NC-17 films don't get promoted because they are only a step down from "X" and they don't want even 17 year olds to see them.

I watched R-rated Zack & Miri Make a Porno in theater in 2008. Just got the DVD and in the Features, Director Kevin Smith explained how he had to fight to get NC-17 lowered to R. He took it to appeals and won - his 3rd time doing that with the MPAA.

IDK what their prob was with this movie. Yes, the subject matter was porn and they had simulated humping and pegging but no actual genital shots (except for one full frontal of Jason Mewes walking naked in his home). One potty humor bit, no worse than the chewing gum shit in Nick & Nora's Infinite Playlist. It seems so arbitrary, but as Kevin said, they can now use comparisons with other flicks in lowering the ratings.

Also there is the issue of violence versus sex. You can cut someone's throat with gushing blood in an R rated movie, but simulated humping gets a no-no.

You can see that I would never be appointed to the MPAA.

I wouldn't care either way. With the internet, anybody who wants to see NC-17 films will see them anyway.
