Lady Gaga's second album 'Born This Way' is reported to have cost online retailer Amazon over $3 million (£1.85 million) since it went on sale last Monday (May 23).
The retailer had been selling the digital version of the album at a heavily discounted 99 cents (60p) in a effort to hook in customers, but according to the New York Magazine, it has set Amazon back over $3 million as they have been paying the singer's record label Universal $9 (£5.60) per album they sell. As they've moved over 440,000 downloads, this adds up to over $3 million.
Gaga said yesterday that she believed a digital version of 'Born This Way', wasn't worth more than the 99 cents Amazon were charging. She said: "For MP3s and digital music. It’s invisible. It’s in space. If anything, I applaud a company like Amazon, for equating the value of digital versus the physical copy, and giving the opportunity to everyone to buy music."
'Born This Way' was released last Monday (May 23) and has so far shifted over 1.1 million copies in the US and over 220,000 in the UK.
