It can also be very sensual. Sticking your tongue out, licking the plate, purring in delight while you keep your eyes on the person that made the meal.

I don't know. Maybe it's the way my dog used to chase his bowl across the kitchen floor as he tried to lick it clean that turns me off the idea.
