No, I was a good kid with a sense of right and wrong - and stealing is wrong.
However, as an adult my partner Jim taut me how to boost from the til at a pizza joint where we were working. Financed one of our trips to India with that extra $50 a nite.
(Rationale: The manager was also taking from the til and the owner ran up a separate receipt for his take.)

I did, a couple of times, when I was 16. I was friends with a pair of sisters who were avid shoplifters. They talked me into it, and I did it about twice. One theft was a cheesecake! Everyone thinks that's funny. Though one of the sisters ate it.
I did not like it. I didn't get caught, but I was intensely uncomfortable, and didn't get anything like the buzz these sisters got, from shoplifting. I would never do anything like it again, and have not, ever since that.

Me and a friend used to be big time kleptos when we were like 12-15. One day we were at the mall and he got caught by the alarm censor cause he tried to walk out first. When that happened I quickly tossed what I had back down and wasnt caught. Never did it again after that!

That happened to me once. Through what I had taken into a stack of newspapers and got away clean. :X

Oh, that reminds me. When I was a teen my buddy and I would go by this newstand on our way home from school. While I would distract the sales person buying some candy, my buddy would slip a Playboy into his school notebook and we would continue our two mile walk home looking at boobies and eating chocolate.alan smithee wrote:Candy? I went through a shoplifting phase when I was young. Me and my brother used to go to stores and plot to swipe, except he did it wrong. I would pick something up and walk around the store with it like I was gonna buy it. He would pick something up and then look around to see if anyone was looking at him. I remember telling him "You're gonna get caught acting like that and when it happens...I DON'T KNOW YOU!"
Like what happened to Robbie though, one of my friends who was into lifting too wound up caught and arrested. Her parents had to go get her and she had to go to court and was put on probation, etc. Just hearing about all that was enough for me to quit.

When I was 4 years old I went grocery shopping with my grandparents and I think a couple of aunts/uncles. My parents weren't there. When we got into the car, I proudly presented a pack of gum and said that I bought it with my own money. I really thought what I did was cute. They all looked at me totally shocked and acted like what I did was some "crime". Turns out it was. I remember them telling me with an scent of "danger" in their voices that I could go to jail for that. My parents of course were told, but they didn't freak out. I remember them being calm and rationally explaining that stealing wasn't what we did. I think if they had been there at the time, they would have been angrier.
That was the first and last time I ever stole anything (on purpose.)

Prior to being 18, I was quite the shoplifter. My friends and I stole a lot. We really were terrible. Now, I can not stand the thought of it.
