When it comes to your religion/spiritual beliefs, are you ever guilty of subjecting your beliefs and/or philosophies onto someone who didn't ask you for it?

This has always been the thing with me. Practice any religion or none at all. But apply it to your own life.
And no, calling for the rights of people is not inflicting beliefs on anyone. But trying to deny those rights by passing them into law...is.

Everyone inflicts their beliefs onto others regardless of whether or not they agree. (Unless they are truly living like a hermit.) Usually it's the people who insist the loudest that they don't inflict their beliefs, and accuse others of doing it the loudest, are the most guilty of it. Everyone just thinks that they are exempt from the rules they place on others.

No, I can't say so. I don't follow an organized religion, so there is nothing to invite them to! I simply have my own beliefs, and philosophies, I am not an atheist, but I don't talk about them, unless someone asks.
Just an anecdote, a girl I work with got married awhile ago. She didn't invite someone I thought was a good work-friend of hers. She did invite some people I didn't realize she was that close to. I have a hunch, the reason was, the uninvitee's husband is a Jehovah's Witness, and she didn't want that at her wedding.

In other words, the answer is yes you do.

This is the most circular argument ever.

^^^^It's hardly circular. It's true. The people truly tolerant of others don't have to go around shouting it. Those who feel the need to shout it tend to be the worst offenders. You only call it circular cause it probably applies to you.
So yeah, you and me both do it. Everyone does. There are different degrees. But anyone who says that they don't do this at all is either deluded or is lying. This isn't even saying that infliction itself is wrong. I never said it was. This isn't about right and wrong. IMO, this is merely calling a cigar, a cigar. And human nature causes every person to inflict their views on others to some degree. Only way out of this is to be a hermit.(In other words, interact with nobody) But your views are too much a part of you for you to not inflict them on others.
The point is that everyone does. So yeah, I do to a point. And so do you. And so does everyone on this forum. Heck, this very thread is already revealing people making excuses for doing it and trying to reason that it isn't the same thing. People tend to always think that their inflictions are somehow not inflictions.JM130ELM wrote:Forgiveness Man wrote:Everyone inflicts their beliefs onto others regardless of whether or not they agree. Well, then. I guess you're just missing the fact that you're being accusatory with your post. Because the person you describe in it is you.

I fully admit that I inflict my views on others at times. It's human nature. And you do too, as does everyone here. I guess YOU missed that. lol
In other words, the point is that this entire thread is little different than asking if somebody has ever gone on The Conversation Chamber. People can either be honest about it or they can live in denial. I don't live in denial about human nature. Apparently, most do. So no, it's not at all circular. It's just common sense.
BTW, I never said infliction itself was wrong in all cases.

Only seems that way to people who want to see it that way. The truth is that it's merely acknowledging that humans push their beliefs on others they encounter. (Admittedly, to varying degrees) I didn't say it was a good thing or a bad thing. It's neither complimentary or insulting.Rockbird wrote:Seems rather insulting on your part.

Well, the question specified my religious beliefs, which I still think, I do not press on anyone.
Other beliefs, I probably do!

Yes, I am quite political when others try to force me into their belief system and Christians are the worst in this country for not even seeing that "so help me god" at the end of an oath or "In god we trust" as a national motto or "under god" in the pledge to the flag is forcing THEIR belief onto a supposed secular society.
And, If I object get accused of forcing my belief on others.

Wow, imagine that! How did I know that YOU "the conservative" would be the ONE person on here who thinks that not only is pushing your beliefs onto other people NORMAL, but that such an act is also justified? Its amazingly weird just how pyschic I can be sometimes huh.Forgiveness Man wrote:Everyone inflicts their beliefs onto others regardless of whether or not they agree. Here's a reality check for you though, I DON'T inflict my beliefs on other people (and I doubt most other liberals do either). It's generally the conservatives (and more specifically the evangelical movement) that insists on doing that (through legistlature of all things)! Not to single you out and not that I'm accusing you of being in this crowd, but I find it really disgusting how people try to justify forcing their religious convictions on others in such a way. Because it's really not a whole lot differet from what groups like the Taliban does in other parts of the world (minus the violence of course).
Uh, no everyone does NOT do that. YOU do that! But here is a part that you missed, we are talking about RELIGIOUS views here. Nobody on this thread has inflicted their religious views on ANYBODY, so that was not a valid comparrison. Secondly, there is a difference from people saying that they think forcing their religious views on other people is WRONG and saying that they don't do this, than inflicting views on other people. There is a differece between DECLAIRING views and INFLICTING them. Voting to make gay marraige illegal because it's against your religion is INFLICTING your views on other people.Forgiveness Man wrote:The point is that everyone does. So yeah, I do to a point. No that's not my style, especially not religion of all things. I shy away from forcing my beliefs on people because I can't bear it being done to me.
