I know that this is a rarity, but are there any movies that you can think of that have been made from books and were better than the actual book? For me, what really stands out is QT's Jackie Brown. I think the movie is way better than the book it was based from: Elmore Leonard's "Rum Punch".

There are a few I can think of:
Crazy in Alabama
Fried Green Tomatoes
Carrie
Jaws
Soylent Green
I know there are more, but that's all I got so far.

The Secret Life of Bees was about equal.....even though they did leave out some important stuff in the movie.

Have you read anything else by Leonard? I haven't gotten to Rum Punch yet so I have to reserve judgment.

I've read "Get Shorty", "Riding the Rap" and "Killshot". He's supposed to be considered the greatest crime novelist ever. Eh, he's okay but I definitely have to force myself to get through he books. Perhaps it's just the ones I've read. Eric Jerome Dickey writes better crime novels than him and he's a chick lit author. And oh yeah, add Out of Sight as a better movie than Riding the Rap.

LOL, I can see why you think so because Out of Sight (JLo and Clooney) is from the novel of the same name. Riding the Rap is the sequel to Pronto. That was a TV movie with the late Peter Falk and had the character Raylan Givens who is in the FX series Justified (that I love).
