Some cigarette manufacturers are now are putting graphic/gory images on the packing. Do you think this is productive or insulting/condescending?

Just an attempt to be manipulative with a silly scare tactic. Next thing you know, some environmental groups opposed to auto exhaust will insist on putting images of gruesome car crashes on the dash board.

I don't think those scare tactics are gonna be that effective. Every smoker has seen those images at some time or another and no one thinks its healthy. We all still choose to smoke anyways.

It may affect some intelligent ppl who were in denial about the effects of tobacco smoke on the body. Everybody knows (or denies) the facts about smoking but as said some are too addicted to stop.
Only 20% of the ppl in the U.S still smoke. That is down significantly than when I was a kid. The little warnings that were put on the side of the packs probably contributed to that as well as the ad campaigns.
The tobacco companies are furiously fighting this new reg - and they may have a case IDK.

I think it is a great idea. Whatever the scare tactic, it is worth it if it will deter kids from ever starting smoking.
If someone has been smoking for 20 years, this ad isn't going to sway them. But it may keep keeps from developing pack a day habits.
