I had one when I was applying to the New Orleans Police Dept.
Interesting how they work. The examiner went thru the obvious questions first, like "how much have you stolen?" (Has anyone never stolen ANYTHING) If he asked if you ever stole anything while hooked to the machine you could not answer yes or no without a response. So we discussed all my petty thievery and the actual question while hooked up was "other than what we discussed here, have you ever stolen anything?"
They do pick up nuances. At the time I identified str8 but guess I did think about making it with guys. They asked if I was homosexual and I said 'no.' Must have given a response because the examiner asked again differently, like have you ever had sex with a man. (This was in '67 - still a perversion and crime to be homo in some places).
