| Do you think children born to unmarried parents should still have their fathers last name?
Ladies, if you were having a baby, but weren't married to your child's father, whose name would you give them: his or yours? | |

| Goes either way. I have family members born of unmarried women who took the woman's last name and those that took the father's last name. | |

| The decision I made with my son is to hyphenate his name. At the time, I saw that as best. I was too traditional to leave his father's name out of the mix, but our relationship was so poor, I couldn't see mine not in the mix either. So, I made the choice that was best for me. And it was a poor one. More problems arise from it now that he is getting older. Before he graduates high school, I will let him legally change it to one or the other, which will probably be his dad's because mine comes first, so it is already the one that is dropped when needed.
If I had it to do all over again, I would have given him just mine and then had I gone on to marry, I would have kept my name as well, so my son and I would have the same last name.

| Depends on what you're comfortable with, but I've always seen the child get the father's last name. If I wasn't married to my child's father, I'd prob. give my kid his last name. Unless it just wasn't a nice name. | |

| When I have my baby, she'll have her dad's last name. My last name will be her middle name. | |

| If it's not too personal, who's name does your daughter have Chris? | |
