IDK about dysfunctional - we may be the norm.
Except for a couple years my mom and I did not communicate over racial issues.
And a few months my sister and I didn't communicate over religious issues.
But we're back to the normal non-confrontational truce that comes with experience and age. I am openly bi and anti religious. They sit silent when I ref me & Jim and I sit silent at the table while they say grace.

My immediate family is cool for the most part. I got family members who do dumb shit just like any other family, but we're not that dysfunctional. We're about a 4.
