The Singing Cowboys Empty The Singing Cowboys

Post by JWF Sat Jul 09, 2011 1:26 pm

TCM began their tribute to the "Singing Cowboy". Probably the most famous being Gene Autry and TCM didn't disappoint with the showing of "Back in the Saddle".

Who are some of your favorite western singing heroes. And most importantly what images reminded you of those days, such as: white hats, campfires, etc.

I'm back in the saddle again
Out where a friend is a friend
    Where the longhorn cattle feed
    On the lowly gypsum weed
    Back in the saddle again

    Ridin' the range once more
    Totin' my old .44
Where you sleep out every night
And the only law is right
    Back in the saddle again

    Whoopi-ty-aye-oh
    Rockin' to and fro
    Back in the saddle again
    Whoopi-ty-aye-yay
    I go my way
    Back in the saddle again

I used to watch Roy Rogers on TV as a kid and I know he and wife Dale Evans sang.

I also know they were quite str8 and it probably pissed them off that their theme song lyrics "Happy Trails to You - Until We Meet Again" was being used as a parting good wish by us dope smoking, acid dropping Hippies.

    I wasn't a fan of the genre.
