Do you think children who are 'gifted' (either intellectually, or in some other skill) should attend traditional public school, or should they be enrolled in schools that cater to their advanced proficiency?

I would choose the latter. Nothing wrong trying to hone a gift.

I would steer them toward the gifted programs so that they are not bored or wasting their talents.

I agree with Ny and Red. May as well have their gifts cultivated, instead of laying stagnant. I also heard that 'gifted' children have a likelihood of acting up and becoming 'problem children' when their capabilities aren't stimulated.

My niece was in gifted classes all her life, and I don't know, she's never been in any trouble or hung out with the wrong crowd so maybe it did something good for her, I don't know. She's always gotten straight A's but I gotta wonder what it really was all worth.

Yeah their gifts and talents should be encouraged and nurtured but I hope it's not at the expense of their childhood.

Yeah. Can't let it go unfulfilled. I would definitely put them in a special school or class where their gifts can be recognized and explored.

Many gifted children have trouble fitting in with the regular crowd because their minds work in such a different way. If they can be in a program that allows those gifts to be developed, that's great. Programs for gifted kids can also help the child to not feel isoalted becaus of those gifts.
