Slasher Films and Violent Movies
Since Chris's thread-idea well had run dry today, I'll toss in a topic--lol. Slasher films and violent movies--do you watch them? What is your opinion of them--like them, don't like them, do you think they are harmless entertainment, or do they promote violence and crime by giving (unstable)people ideas? Discuss.

Re: Slasher Films and Violent Movies
Halloween was good excluding 3 and up till 6, Nightmare on Elm Street (does this COUNT as a slasher movie?) was okay with the first one, the second was horrible, and the next three were so so, I never saw Friday the 13th and I found Scream and its sequels to be just laughable at best. And I know What You Did Last Summer sucked.

I watch them. I agree with cheaps. Harmless entertainment.
I think unstable people already have ideas & don't need a movie or video game to find them. Movies, games & music have become an easy scapegoat.

Sometimes I'm a real coward when it comes to extreme blood and gore, but after I see an especially gruesome movie once, I'll easily watch it a second time.

First time I saw Last House on the Left (Original!), you know this movie is regarded as being SO violent, and it's only recently been shown in Britain uncut after 30+ years, and I saw it and the ONLY part that I looked away during was the dream where they put a chisel and hammer on a guy's tooth and swing the hammer down on it. And that was a split second scene, that was the only part I initially (because I didn't know that was the point he woke up) couldn't see in full.

Re: Slasher Films and Violent Movies
I prefer suspenseful movies that allude to the idea of somthing violent happening, as opposed to actually seeing it played out. Too much gore leaves me with an agitated feeling and makes my heart race.

I don't go for slasher films. Not much on gore at all. (Shocking, given my writings.) If the gore isn't too strong and the plot is strong, I could tolerate violence, though.

It is also a sign of the times. The original movie came out in the 70's and for that time period it was considered a very violent movie. By the time I got to see it in the 80's I was still shook up with the scene where he degraded the girls and then stabbed that one girl. It was such a disturbing scene I had it in my head for days.

Re: Slasher Films and Violent Movies
I am a big fan of Horror/Slasher movies from Vampires, Witches, Werewolves, Ghouls, Ghosts, Jason, Freddie, serial killers, I have seen them all and I love them!!! I am an admitted Horror movie addict.
I honestly don't think you can plant a seed that is probably already been planted in some sicko's head by watching these movies or video games.

But obviously even recently some countries still found it VERY disturbing because it was only a few years ago that the British censors STILL wouldn't let it be shown uncut.

I own the original movie, I have never opened it to watch it again. I am sure that same scene would still disturb me the way it did back then, it was just too realistic.
Have you ever seen "The girl next door" not the comedy movie its another movie of the same name. A sick Aunt kept her niece locked up in the basement and did all kinds of horrid things to her while the neighborhood boys watched and participated. I was so sick from that movie and it stayed in my head for days and days after.

Re: Slasher Films and Violent Movies
No, I never saw it and don't think I'd care to either.
One thing I found out about Last House, the blood, I thought it looked realistic, some movies you can tell, they use the fake blood or something, for the blood in Last House they got it to look so convincing by mixing blue and red food coloring and something else to it, I don't remember what but it did the trick. But I imagine it must've been murder to wash off.

I haven't seen that particular movie, but some of the ones from back in the 70's are downright creepy. Ever see "Let's Scare Jessica To Death" ? That one was a psychological thriller where you had to figure out if the main character was going insane and having a breakdown, or if there really were vampires/zombies after her.

Love 'em, the bloodier the better. Texas Chainsaw Massacre should have been nominated for an Oscar.

Ditto me. I love those bloody, psychological thriller type movies, where the crazy villain can be shot five times and not die, because they're just that set on trying to kill their target. I don't know how much I like those monster/slasher movies though, they make me squeamish.
