When you were growing up, did your parents ever: open your (e)mail, spy on you, listen in on your conversations, or go through your things? Obviously, it's a parents right to, but do you think parents should allow their kids to have privacy?

If you have any children, have you ever spied on what they were doing? If you don't have any children yet, can you imagine yourself doing so?

My ma never did any of those things growing up.

Yes I think parents should allow kids to privacy, cuz I enjoyed mine.

I can say unequivocally that my parents NEVER snooped on my e-mail!

Being a Scorpio type, adept at uncovering covert things (Yeah, they put me to work spying on the Russkies in the cold war) I had no qualms about snooping in our daughter's room (which as mentioned was our room - and furniture).

I didn't really hide anything from my mom and got more grief from being so upfront with my stuff. (OK, I hid a few pics ripped from Playboy that only showed girls butts & boobies).

Well, she did find 3 cigars that I had in a top desk drawer, so guess she was snooping. She told me I was not going to smoke those cigars. So I put them on top of a picture frame in plain sight and never smoked them. (got new cigars to smoke and hid them better)

Nothing like that but she would come through my room 'what's this? what's this? what's this?' closed shoeboxes 'oooh, what's in here?' through my drawers 'let's clean them out'.

I don't know, I might do the same with my kid, but I think I'll take a more subtle approach, do it when they're not there, and if I don't find anything that looks like an immediate problem, let it go at that.

Nah, not really. My mother is nosy and she will look at your stuff if you leave it out there for her to look at....but she wouldn't just come into my room and just go through my things for the hell of it. She didn't like being in my room anyway. Now, when she was visiting last week....she called herself rearranging everything in my closet to make it neater. It's funny cause she found my porn DVD's and instead of putting them with the rest of the DVD's she organzied in the bottom of the storage bin, she left those out on top of my books and other stuff I had in there. As if to say, "yeah, I see what you've been doing". She also organzied the stuff in my Victoria Secrets shopping bag and I had a bunch of Magnums in there. Now I gotta call her up from time to time and ask her where she put certain shit. But honestly, I don't mind it and I'm not mad about it all. My closet needed reorganizing. I'm just happy that she didn't find Victor. Smile

But I don't think spying is necessary in most situations. I won't spy on my kids.
