Is Garfield funny?

For Garfield being one of the most popular comic strips in the entire world and having quite a TV legacy first with half hour specials, then Garfield & Friends, and today with the computer animated sorry excuse...there are people who don't consider him to be funny. I disagree. Now, I'll admit, these days it's rare to find a daily strip of his that's a real gut buster...but this was not always the case.

On the Garfield website in the comics section they're all in archives going back to when Garfield first premiered in papers...looking through the older comics you not only see how differently everybody was drawn and that Jon used to have a roommate named Lyman, but they were definitely a LOT funnier there. Or if you don't have the patience to check the archives one by one, the comics are of course released in comic books, and to make it easier, they're joined in 3's in the Fat Cat 3 Packs...I think I'm up to volume 6 or 7, and I really ought to read through them again because I don't remember most of them, but I do know the late 70s and early 80s Garfields were side splitters all the way, with Christmas being an exception, they were always serious for Christmas.

What's everyone else's opinion?

I used to like Garfield before he was animated. Now I don't think he is too funny.

Yeah Garfield and Friends was great, IS great, and so are the other original cartoon specials: Garfield in Disguise, Garfield's Christmas, Here Comes Garfield, Garfield Goes Hollywood, Babes and Bullets, Garfield in the Rough, etc. It's too bad more people don't know about them, and what more it's too bad they never show the Halloween one on TV anymore, and I don't remember them EVER showing the Thanksgiving one as long as I've been alive, what's up with that?

I think Garfield is funny. The only time I didn't was when they produced those live action films, with Breckin Meyer, Jennifer Love Hewitt and Billy Murray voicing. Garfield wasn't funny then; but the comic strips/books/cartoons are still hilarious.

Thats what I am talking about those films. The comic strip was much funnier.

I used to enjoy Garfield when I was younger.

He looked freaky in that live action film

Don't know about the comics, but I loved the cartoon.

I don't know when it was but there was a good one where Jon was in the tub, and Garfield pops up in it explaining Pooky wants a bath too, and Odie jumps in with them, and the mailman comes by the window, and Jon finally stands up and hollers out 'Hey world, I'm taking a bath! Come on in and watch me!' and this old woman up the hill is saying 'I'll be right back' and her husband says 'I'm sure he's just kidding, Rheba!'

Love Garfield I can watch the cartoons all day. I even started to warm up to the new cartoon show on CN. Nowhere near as good as the old 80's cartoon but its entertaining still.

Never liked him in any format.
