Have you ever been at a store and saw someone stealing? If so, did you ignore it or report it?

Never in a store. I was with a friend who lifted a stethoscope when we were walking thru a hospital. That's about it.

Re: Witnessing someone stealing
I'm pretty sure that I witnessed a couple of women in a department store stuff something into a bag (and it wasn't a shopping sack with the store logo on it). I also knew that this store has a senstive sensor that often tags people who did not steal. I did not report it but memory tries to tell me that police came and parked in front of the store in pursuit.
One time I was in one of those candy stores with bulk barrells of various candy. I looked up to watch an adult man sneak one piece while walking by. He peered back to see my reaction, I guess. But, no, I wouldn't report theft for a single piece of taffy.

I've caught shop lifters when I worked retail.

OMG, I just saw this old lady stealing shit from the store the other day! She had merchandise under her cart that I'm sure didn't get rung up and just rolled on out the store with it! The funny part was, I'm not sure if she realized it was under there, and as I watched her roll away I noticed the cashier looking like she wanted to say something but she held her tongue and let the old lady slide!

Once I was at a record store and these two kids tried to get me to cover for them while they boosted a few CDs. I didn't report them but I didn't help them out either.

Yeah, some old couple at Aldi had a whole thing worked out. It was so blatant, my son noticed it at the check out. The clerk did not.

Re: Witnessing someone stealing
when i worked retail, if i saw someone steal food or medication, i let it slide. it was usually old people who couldnt afford to buy food. i even gave employee discounts to old people who bought the ensure by the case cause they couldnt eat solid food.
but when it came to stealing 8 pairs of levi jeans, i stopped people all the time.
