My mother gets the exact opposite, "What do YOU do for a job?", they don't seem to realize that taking care of a 93-year-old woman too lazy to do anything for herself is a full time job with no pay or benefits and no option to quit.

One of my friend's mother is going through the same thing with her sister, who's the same age as your g-mother, with the same problems. And she's worn out and very depressed. But the sister doesn't care.

Ya know? It's enough for my dad to ask "when are you gonna give me some grandkids?" or for my grandma (when she was in her right mind) to ask, "You married yet?" But people who don't know me like that....

I don't like being asked about income.
I have to agree with Atown, I don't like "what's new?" or "what have you guys been up to?" If you go on a diatribe about what is new, it sounds like bragging. But saying, "Not much" is too understated.
