Amber Alerts

Today a little 2yrs old boy was kidnapped from a mall in NJ. An amber alert was issued, and once an hour the Emergency Broadcasting System interrupted our television programming to give descriptions of the child and kidnapper.

Do you ever pay attention to these alerts? and if so, to you keep on the lookout for those described?

It seems like everytime i am on the turnpike, a "silver alert" is issued for a missing old person... does anyone pay attention?

Yes I pay attention. Never heard of a Silver alert.

I do. We get about as many Silver Alerts as Amber Alerts.

I'll listen, but I don't go out of my way to keep alert of that person. If I see 'em and I remember, I will say something.

We never have them here. The last time I recall them breaking in on TV to give a report about a missing child was when I was about 8 years old, this back when the screen would go black and silver with snow and crooked lines and you would hear the tornado siren before the message.

We do get amber alerts here, and they've worked. I don't pay much attention to those because there isn't something visible to go on. I have "seen" someone on the alert once but it wasn't the amber system ~ it was a posting on a store window by the runaway's parents. I have a photographic memory, and months later I recognized the girl in inside a store. However, I didn't have a way to reach the parents and the flyer was gone, too.

I pay attention to the alerts but I don't know how much I keep my eyes peeled for the abducted child.

We have "Code Adams" here (named after Adam Walsh, murdered son of America's Most Wanted host, John Walsh), and those are usually announced in stores if a child goes missing. The Amber Alerts, they flash signs on the roadways with a description of the missing child.

We had a Code Adam a couple of weeks ago in a store, and I did see the child that got lost, but a store employee got to him before I could, and brought him back to his parents.

I think I only heard a code Adam one time. I never heard of a silver alert. And there have been reports on the news of an elderly person, but they never called it that.

As far as Amber Alerts, I always pay attention and then do keep a closer watch until I know it has been resolved. I think they changed the criteria in the last couple years on cases that qualify as an Amber alert around here. We get a lot these days and it is often a teen girl who has taken off with a boyfriend.

Personally, I don't think a teen leaving on her own free will should be an Amber Alert unless she has a medical issue. Otherwise there are going to be so many, people will stop paying as much attention.

There's been an Amber alert for a missing two year old girl here in Michigan for a few weeks now. Yes, I pay attention to them.

I do pay attention to amber alerts, but my memory isn't that great most of the time, so I might not be any good. I can be so nonchalant, that the kid would walk right on pass me and I wouldn't even notice.

Hell sometimes people I know, I will walk right on by them sometimes. They'd be the one to get my attention.
