I had a guy hinting to it tonight at Walmart. I am relieved he did not ask directly.

You really have to wonder about some of them. I have as much compassion as anyone but also a sense of self preservation. I'm not taking someone I don't know anywhere.

It would be a wonderful world if we didn't have to be so careful. But you just can't take that risk.

Not that specific situation, but once I went to pick up a friend and she had one of HER friends waiting asking for a ride going the opposite direction. Since he gave me $ I was cool with it, but the second time he jumped in my car ASSUMING I would give him a ride, asking if I would stop him by the corner store down the street first so he can get some cigs.
Yeah, I took him to the corner store. I hope he found a ride home, though.

Hitch-hiking was accepted in the early 70s and I did it quite a bit - as well as picked up ppl when I was driving. Got from San Francisco to New Orleans that way.
I have even met ppl who would have had an ordeal getting from downtown New Orleans to the airport, and just got my car and took them.
There was a feeling of brotherhood back then.

Oh, that's happened several times, usually I don't mind if I'm not in a hurry.
As far as a total stranger? No, I wouldn't.
