Don't know about an acquaintance, but I'd want a friend to at least wave, say hi or give me a head nod lol It's what I always do.

Communication goes both ways. If they don't say something & I want to then I will. If they don't initiate a conversation, they may be preoccupied - why take offense.
I have been told I am rude because I don't do all the prescribed social amenities with acquaintances. I usually tell them that it is rude to admonish an adult on his manners and I do it in a tone that says, "you wanna see rude?"

Not usually. I know that a lot of people don't recognize others outside of a certain setting, even if you've spoken face to face before.

Also, with me I am sometimes hesitant to acknowledge some acquaintances I know from other venues if others are around.
Like if I knew them when they were batshit crazy on a psych unit - do they really want me to go over and say Hi, when they may not want ppl they are with to know how they know me?
Or if it is a guy who was sexually intimate with me or we met at the nude beach - maybe he doesn't want to explain how he knows me.
So, I wait to see if they want to acknowledge me.

Normally, it would be me being oblivious to seeing someone. So, I can't be offended when others make the same mistake.
That said, it is crazy awkward to stand around trying to make eye contact when it goes unnoticed.
