Our work so far:

We effed up and got the wrong kind of clear coat though, so it reacted with the paint and made yellow spots
So that ended up being a nightmare that we still haven't quite solved.

Wouldn't know if it's retro or not. IDK if it's even the kind of style I'd wanna live in, but it actually looks good. Kind of like a place I'd look comfortable visiting and a style I'd come to associate with the people who live there.
