To tell the truth, never or as close to it as possible. When I worked in retail, I had a roller ball ben that was inexpensive but very comfortable. It had a cap instead of a retractable point. I used to hand it to customers to sign their charge card slips but I always kept the cap. Don't recall anyone walking off with it.

I don't intentionally steal pens, but if I sit down at my desk at work and there lies a random papermate that someone left there, then it's mine.

Not intentionally, but my house is full of pens and I don't remember the last time I shopped for a pack. For the most part I get them from work; we have a room full of pens and paper supplies.

like just few weeks ago, someone who stays at the hotel pretty often, decided to use his own pen to sign in. he had left it on the counter an i swiped it

I'm not intentional pen thief. In past jobs I had, I often took promo pens or pencils home all the time.
