Is there anyone close to you who struggles with a mental illness? I'm dating a guy whose older brother was born with cerebral palsy. I met him a few weeks ago and my heart breaks for him because he's very sweet and tries really hard to keep up with everybody.

Re: Mental illness
I have a cousin with a mild case of bipolar, but it's manageable.

Ppl with CP often have mild mental retardation, but some don't and those are the ones who have it ruff because with slurred speech and drooling, they are perceived as being intellectually disabled when they aren't.Kral wrote:... As for me, my partner jim was certified - but no secret to all who knew him. But he had his lovable moments, which is why I lived with him for five years. Ironically, he worked as an aide in a psych hospital (same as me). Probably gave an inside edge that helped relate to crazy ppl.

Nah. My grandmother was a foster parent to kids and adults like that so I have seen it firsthand.

Re: Mental illness
I have had first hand experience with a woman who was Bi-polar. It is very difficult for me to feel any sort of compassion toward her because she makes the choice to drink while on her meds, making the "crazy" X10. And when she has a clear head again, she doesn't right any wrongs.
