    If a loved one was spiraling out of control, was behaving erratically and was perhaps abusing a substance, would you be willing to go behind their back to have them involuntarily committed?

    I agree. I would try to get them the help they needed without it being pushed on them. But, I would go to drastic measures if whatever the issue was got out of control and stayed that way after other options were offered.
