LOS ANGELES – Internet sensation Rebecca Black has chosen to be homeschooled to get away from constant verbal bullying, the singer told ABC News in an interview scheduled to air Wednesday night.

Black, 14, rose to fame earlier this year when her music video "Friday" quickly gained over 100 million hits on YouTube, though she has been widely derided for the song's cheesy lyrics and her uncharismatic performance of it.

"When I walk by they'll start singing 'Friday' in a really nasally voice," Black told ABC News of her experiences at school. "Or, you know, they'll be like, 'Oh hey, Rebecca, guess what day it is?'"

Black's mother Georgina Marquez endorsed the homeschooling decision due to the taunting and because her daughter needs more time to focus on her career.

"She certainly did not need that kind of pressure," Marquez told ABC News.

Black, whose has been tapped to appear in the latest Katy Perry video and who also brought home an MTV Teen Choice award for Choice Web Star last weekend, told the network fame has not changed her much.

"It's hard because everyone wants to say 'Oh my God, I'm this big star now,'" Black said. "But I don't see it that way. I'm still the same 14-year-old girl that loves to hang out with her friends."

Well good for her then. Homeschooling is a smarter option with or without the bullying as she has more time to focus and fewer distractions.

If that is the extent of the bullying she needs to grow the hell up. If that's all people are doing they're just being annoying. But no more than that damn song. This sounds like a way to get her name back in the news again.

If they're just singing that godawful song & saying "guess what day it is?" that's a long way from being bullied.

Yea true, and if she's gonna be in that line of business, she's gonna need tougher skin.

Shouldn't children be focusing on school instead of careers at her age??? Sounds to me like she has a stage-mother who wants to live vicariously through her, and while a little distraction here and there is fun, good, and a healthy thing, I think education and normal, everyday stuff with friends should take priority over becoming a superstar. Too many child stars end up screwed up and can't deal with life because their focus has been taken off real life; they've lived in fantasy worlds for so long that when they get hit with a dose of reality, they can't handle it.

And I agree with Hyacinth in that at 14 you don't need a career. Granted I was already in college at 14 and would've PREFERRED to instead just be working on my writing career, but that's different.
