Occasionally, I believe we all need our heart and mind to be touched by a film.
Germain (Gerard Depardieu) a 50+ over weight, illiterate, and common laborer meets Margarueritte (Gisele Casadesus) a tiny, 95 year-old, frail, educated women, who's family has put her away in a nursing home. One afternoon they accidental meet at near-by park, which turns into a daily occurrence. Through flashbacks we learn of Germain's abusive childhood and how a lack of self-esteem and ignorance has followed him into adulthood. They eventually bond, using reading and kindness.
Not a great film. At times a bit too sentimental and predicable, but it points out that love comes in many different forms. And in the most unusual circumstances someone can transform your life.
