I, too, have noticed this many times. My mom used to tell me that real 'lovey-dovey' couples often ended up in divorce, and I thought she was just being negative. But, by golly, it didn't take long as an adult to see that she was on to something.

I would say true. Trying to keep up appearances and/or trying to convince themselves that things are better than what they are through their boasting.
