Did you ever have even the most blatant thing fly over you? Or even worse, ever had a lapse in memory for the ages?

We went boating with a family and the wife and I were talking about libraries, which led to her talking about a trilogy she loved. She said, "I loved all three." I asked, "Do you think they will publish a fourth?"

Total lapse, as in the moment I was thinking trilogy = series. I was very embarrassed.

Had a couple of them. None that I can remember in detail right now.

Red, that's really not so terrible. It's only a trilogy while there are only three books. If there's money to be made, an author can and will write more. It's not as if you asked, "How many books in the series?"

I had a baaaaaaaaaaaaad moment. At work, I called another location; a nice sounding young gentleman answered the phone and I was oozing charm with every syllable only to find out that it was my boss the whole time. Someone hose me down with iodine please!!!!!!!!!!

when i saw this thread i thought of my mom...

she called me saying "I heard gunshots and called the police! They sound like they came from outside my bedroom window!" The police came and found nothing and went on their way because there were no other reports. Again my mom calls the police, "I was in the air force, i know a gun shot when i hear it!" they come out again... nothing.

My mom calls me back and says "guess what.... the sound i heard was the cat's water fountain... it was clogged and needed to be cleaned, so it kept making a loud noise every once in awhile!" But come on ma? a gunshot???? lol

I can't remember any right now either, but I've definitely have had my moments.

I guess this qualifies. Almost 30 years ago we were invited to the wedding of one of my wife's co-workers. I think we were the only non-Hispanic guests. I've since picked up a few more Spanish words but back then, when I heard practically everyone call this one guy "Tío", I thought that was his name so that's how this gringo addressed him. My wife eventually got the chance to pull me aside and tell me it means "uncle". Time for a cerveza.
