When you were growing up, were you ever embarrassed by the cars your parents drove?

Re: Your parents cars
What, embarrassed of my dad's 49 Nash?
I was too young to care.
The next car was a 59 Oldsmobile, then a 61 Chevy Impala the car I learned to drive in. All pretty much what ppl had back then.

My dad had this beat up ass van that he used for work. I didn't like riding it. He also the Knight Rider car, which was mad cool until my mother wreck it. My mother's car was nice too. For the most part, I didn't care. Both of them had enough cars in their lifetime.

Re: Your parents cars
My dad no longer drove by the time I was born. Brother and his wife living next door did all the driving, and they owned a black 57 Chevy that everyone thought was so cool. So I always felt proud to be in it.
Their next car was some ugly Dodge thing, don't even know the model. Just wasn't the same.

My first car was a 57 Chevy - it was 10 years old and whipped, but in bad a shape as it was I loved that car. (A guy never forgets his first car).

Cool photo! I'd bet you kinda' wish you still had it, huh? My brother does ~ he occasionally sees it driven by its current owner.

Yes, it finally died of oil consumption on a back road in Mississippi, and I traded the title for $20 and a ride to the nearest town with a Greyhound station.Bluesmama wrote:Cool photo! But, two cars later I got another one (gas lovin' 283 V8) that lasted me until my first VW Bug in 1970.

Re: Your parents cars
I don't know if embarrassed is the right word, but there were times when…awww hell…yes I can remember being embarrassed by some of their whips. But by and large, I wasn't. I can remember being a little, little girl back in the 80's and them having some questionable cars that were old and raggedy, that they bought because it was all they could afford at that moment, but by the time I hit middle and high school they had gotten with the program and their cars became newer and sleeker.

^ Yep. When I was little (like 9 and under), my parents had some real hoopties....but every next car got better and by the time I was a teenager, they were finally buying brand new.
