If you can survive the first 2 reels (hour) you will be pleasantly surprised. The final reel (30 minutes) offers a heartfelt, disillusioned and riveting account of young love.
The film is not in the same force as "Before Sunrise", but Anton Yeltin and Felicity Jones (my first experience of her) offer two terrific performances. Chemistry is first-rate.
We follow the 2 leads after graduation---over the next several years---and how Anna and Jacob try to survive a long distance relationship. The film uses visa violations between LA and the UK to tell the story.
This is not your usual Hollywood romantic tale. There are flaws and an early structure that is too slow and restated. There are scene after scene that seem alike. I had to force myself to keep awake, but it all changes with the final act.
B (3/5 stars)
It's reported the actors were not provide with a script. Most was improvised
