If it had ever been an issue when she was younger than 16 I would have said no but it never came up.

I don't see the harm in letting them.

Well, I didn't, and my daughter fell for that hardcore gangsta' rap. She knew how I felt about the lyrical content of some that music. Her mistake: Despite the warnings she played it loud enough in her room for me to hear. Since it wasn't to be played in MY house, I disposed of few of them.
But she was a bit of a contradiction. She liked Country a lot, too. Some days she alternated a gangsta' rap song with a country song. Strange kid.

I'm in the "Depends on what it is" crowd. I don't believe in sheltering kids for everything that's edgy, but some things at certain ages aren't really necessary either.
