How easily can you forgive someone who does something stupid with catastrophic results?

The anger response would be about the same as if the tragedy was caused by an evil person. But perhaps more forgivable because it had no malicious intent.

But it could be hard to determine one from the other. What about a chronic drunk driver who's been arrested several times, then finally kills someone? He/She had no intent, but the neglect is horrendous and not forgiveable.

Stupid as in they absolutely refuse to listen or understand the situation and they take a lighted match and stick it in a styrofoam cup of gasoline and this time it catches fire and they throw it towards a 500 gallon fuel tank that is leaking stupid?

That depends on who the person is, what/why they did it and what the consequences were.

Depends on what it is.

Depends on who it is, what they did and just how catastrophic the outcome.
