do you bank at a "hometown" smaller bank, or a large one like bank of america or TD or something like that?

I used to use those, but the feeling was so impersonal... now i bank where everyone knows me.

Large. Unfortunately so "spidered in" with them at the moment I'm kinda stuck for a while. If I won the lottery I would pay them off & do business with the credit union exclusively.

Big one. For the most part I've had good experience with it, although I may in time switch to a credit union.

All the tellers are sure personal with my husband, though. He does all his transactions at the drive-up and they know his name. It's real interesting. I rarely see a teller unless I want to deposit cans of money. I use the ATM, direct deposit, and that's it.

Both, our main account is with a local Credit Union but in another town, so we also have an account here in the town we live in, it is a small account that is fed through our retirement savings. Works out very nicely for us. Neither charges us anything , the Credit union charges us nothing no matter how many transactions. The bank would charge us after a certain number of transactions.

IDK how large my bank is, but it has several branches in the state. I've had an account with them for over a decade. I recently opened an account at a credit union in addition to the bank. Put some of my eggs in another basket.
