PostSubject: Do you easily cry?   Do you easily cry? EmptySun Jul 11, 2010 10:32 pm

Benefits of crying tears, science of crying, releasing toxins.

It sounds funny, but if you eat a lot you naturally have to release a lot
into the toilet. Likewise, if you drink a lot, you're going to have a
similar result. Crying is the same. But the crazy thing is that people
do not know they are taking in painful feelings and painful thoughts,
let alone understand how to release them from their system. Crying
is perhaps the easiest and fastest way to release emotional pain, but
unfortunately it has become socially unacceptable for both men and
women to cry in public. We are already aware of all the social stigmas
attached with those who cry in public (ie: weakness, in need of
attention, etc.), but what most people are not aware of is the new
scientific studies that actually prove tears caused from 'emotional
crying' carry toxins not normally found in the tear created to simply
moisten the eye. Crying, like sneezing, coughing and defecating,
is a natural way of releasing toxins that are associated with various emotions:
both those considered 'good' and those considered 'bad'.

Biochemist William Frey (Crying: The Mystery of Tears, Winston Press, Texas, 1977)
compared the normal moisturizing tear with the tear caused by emotion
and found that stressful tears contained ACTH or adrenocorticotrophic
hormone. ACTH is a hormone associated with high blood pressure, heart
problems, peptic ulsers and other physical conditions closely related
to stress.

Very easily, actually. So long as it isn't stupid or shlocky enough to eye roll at, it's nothing for me to tear up at somebody's sob story or hard moment.
I also can envision being in an emotional/poignant situation (completely made up in my head) and start sobbing....sincerely.

I could be a great actor.

I'm the exact same way.

Not really much of a crier, I have to say. Aside from fleeting teary-eyed moments, I probably haven't really broken down and sobbed since I was kid.

I will say, though, that other peoples grief sometimes gets to me. When my grandmother died six years ago, I went to the funeral and was initially fine. Then this lady, who I didn't know personally but knew my grandma, stood up and spoke. When she was done, she loudly wept on her way back to her seat. That got to me.

When my daughter was about a year old, I took her to get her vaccination shots. As soon as she started to holler after getting the needle, I too almost came unglued.

Depends. It takes a lot to make me cry sometimes and sometimes it doesn't. Razz I'm emotionally unpredictable.

Totally random for me. Sometimes something can easily take me there, other times it's not at all likely. For the most part you'd be more likely to see a UFO than me cry.

I tear up easily especially outside in the cold when the wind is bad. But hardcore crying is something I haven't done in a real long time.

Who knew?

And to answer...it can vary. Sometimes people die, and there's no response from me, other people die, I'm inconsolable. Movies...for years as a kid I avoided the end of All Dogs go to Heaven because I could NOT watch it without bawling. And everybody points at Old Yeller as one of the biggest tearjerkers ever, it didn't make me cry, but movies like Harold and Maude and Last Holiday, even though we KNOW she's not dying I can't help when she's looking at herself in the mirror and talking about 'next time we'll' I start to tear up every time no matter how many times I see that movie. As it stands now, the only movie that I KNOW upon seeing it again and again and again, will likely turn the water works on for me, The Green Mile when they're coming to get John Coffey to take him to the chair.

I remember one day last month, off and on all day I kept crying, had NO idea why, this was right after Elizabeth Edwards died and my mother said that it had a bigger impact on people than we thought because we were all thinking about her children and dying right at Christmas.

In general, I'd say I'm not much of one, but some days it's just like somebody found the main hormonal faucet and turned it on full blast.

I cry very easily over sappy movies, parts in books, and things like that, but over other stuff? Not really. I don't get sad very often, but when I'm really down, a good cry helps.
