In your opinion, how old should a movie be before Hollywood green-lights a remake of it?

Can't say. As with everything in Hollywood, it depends on the market. If ppl want to see a new & improved movie then they should make it whenever.
Sometimes, like reinterpreting a good foreign (Swedish) film to appeal to American tastes like Let the Right One In or The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo are just a couple of years.

It MIGHT be interesting to see a remake of 2 Minute Warning, that's about 40 years or so. I want to see it redone so the sniper is NOT aiming for random people in the stadium but is going to shoot the football players at the Super Bowl.

IMO a film should be at least 25-30 years old before it's a remake is considered. Even then, I think so movies are timeless enough that they should just be left alone.

It would have to be a good story. I think it partly depends on whether or not it still holds up or seems dated. Some would benefit from being updated & retold while others just couldn't recapture the magic of the original.

At least 20 years....but honestly, I usually don't appreciate any movie made during my lifetime being rebooted (especially if I can remember the original.)

agree. Did you see what they did to the Karate Kid? ... and I won't bother even watching the apparent Dirty Dancing remake.
