Do you think that kids should be a certain age before they're allowed to use the phone, in general? Beyond talking to relatives, and receiving calls from peers.

Not really. If they're capable of conversing they can have phone calls.

That depends on the kid. My oldest could not take a message even at 17 or 18. The 2 younger kids could by the time they were 10.

actually they should be trained on how to use the phone as soon as they are able, I say maybe 5 or 6 years old. You never know what might happen in an emergency and a kid that old would be able to call for help if no one else was around.
