| Have you ever know anyone who has had a stroke? If so, did they ever make a full recovery? | |

| My sister-in-law, who died from complications a couple of years ago, and a brother-in-law, who had a major one from a brain aneurisym last year. He is doing better than expected but it is a long haul. | |

| My grandfather had a stroke and it left him senile, then later he had a lot while in the hospital and died, as did a cousin while she was in her early 30's . My youngest uncle (my grandfathers son) had a massive stroke and died about a week later still in hospital, he would have been 80 his next birthday. | |

| My mother in law. We didn't find out until she had her eyes checked when she ran off the road. | |

| Yep. Godmother had a massive stroke in May. Didn't have a chance. My great-grandfather had one, although he died from Alzheimer's. I've known couple of other people. Some recovered, most didn't. | |

- Learn the many warning signs of a stroke. Act FAST and CALL 9-1-1 IMMEDIATELY at any sign of a stroke.
Use FAST to remember the warning signs:
FACE:
Ask the person to smile. Does one side of the face droop?
ARMS:
Ask the person to raise both arms. Does one arm drift downward?
SPEECH:
Ask the person to repeat a simple phrase. Is their speech slurred or strange?
TIME:
If you observe any of these signs, call 9-1-1 immediately.
NOTE THE TIME WHEN ANY SYMPTOMS FIRST APPEAR. If given within three hours of the first symptom, there is an FDA-approved clot-buster medication that may reduce long-term disability for the most common type of stroke. There are also two other types of stroke treatment available that might help reduce the effects of stroke. Learn as many stroke symptoms as possible so you can recognize stroke as FAST as possible. Stroke symptoms include:
SUDDEN numbness or weakness of face, arm or leg - especially on one side of the body. SUDDEN confusion, trouble speaking or understanding. SUDDEN trouble seeing in one or both eyes. SUDDEN trouble walking, dizziness, loss of balance or coordination. SUDDEN severe headache with no known cause.
Call 9-1-1 immediately if you have any of these symptoms
Note the time you experienced your first symptom. This information is important to your healthcare provider and can affect treatment decisions. http://www.stroke.org/site/PageServer?pagename=symp | |
