    We rarely go to the Dr.

    One thing I am blown away by recently is the difference in how things are handled.

    My son's ear was hurting a lot a few weeks ago, and we took him to a walk-in to pay cash. I pay private insurance and do not need that to increase next year.

    I spoke to someone today who went to the same walk in and saw the same nurse practitioner and that N.P. didn't even look in the ear of my friend who filled out her insurance paperwork before she was seen. Yet my friend was told it "must be" an ear infection due to the pain.

    So unreal since there could be another reason for her pain....

    I am so convinced insurance rules.

    The only doctor I see is the dentist and I ain't seen him in over a year.

    That's a sorry excuse for a medical practice if they didn't even look in their ear. If that's the way they operate there's gonna be a lawsuit in their future.

    I would have insisted they use an otoscope and check for cerumin impaction or some other visible reason for the pain.

    Damn, it is a sorry state when a guy off the street could do a better physical exam than a paid professional. Maybe I should go into business and open a clinic. Oh, do I need a license? Why?

    Yeah, that's crazy. I make my appts with whomever I want to see. I always get my regular doctor.

    I hope they took better care of your son, Red. I may start with a nurse but I always end with a doctor.

    Twice when I've been rushed to ER with back spasms the doctor on duty said that he wouldn't X-ray my back to "save radiation". I think it was the insurance talking, and that's happened to some friends of mine who ended up having very serious issues (one died, in fact).
