....My 70-something dad quit cigars after 50 years of smoking them. When we went for a visit last weekend, I thought the house smelled fresh. I was shocked when he told us he quit over a month ago.

So, anyone seeking inspiration to quit...if an old retired dude can quit, so can you!

I'm truly, honestly not looking to quit, just to slow down, past few months I been smoking daily and buying packs, I wanna get back to only smoking when I drink (which is 1-2 times a week) and bumming cigarettes Smile

In fact Imma go smoke right now.

Good for him! I quit for a long time, then had some stops & starts the last few years. Doing good right now. It's not easy.

I quit when cigs cost 30 cents a pack. I too stopped off & on, usually in the winter because I knew smoking caused me more upper respiratory problems then started again in spring/summer. Finally around 1970 I stopped smoking tobacco (and only did the occasional joint).

It is hard to quit by the number of ppl who are hooked. You have to really know it is a deadly addiction and desire to kick it. Then, forever like an alcoholic you have to realize you can't just bum one now and then or you will end up buying a pack and you are again smoking. I really think it is more a psychological addiction than physical.

I don't recall any physical withdrawal symptoms, but there were those smoke times in the day that I reached in my empty shirt pocket.

Good for your dad. My mom quit smoking about five years ago. She had been smoking since she was in her teens. My dad still smokes, though. I don't think he's giving that one up.
