If someone who is unemployed and on welfare wins the lottery, should they still be able to collect their welfare checks?

How long til the money starts coming in? If it takes awhile for them to start collecting their lottery winnings, then they should up until then.

I thot to be on welfare you needed a limited amount of financial resources so the lottery would kick you out of the eligibility for it.

Depends on how much they won. Anything after 2 million AFTER taxes....no.

In general, I would say no; but it depends on how much they won, how much taxes are removed from it, and how much personal debt they have. If they win enough to set them for life, or even for the next five to ten years, then I would say no.
