Have you ever had a reptile (lizard, frog, etc., etc.) as a pet? If not, would you consider it?

Re: Reptiles as pets
I'm used to so many different species I don't think it would bother me, especially if it was one unlikely to escape.

Re: Reptiles as pets
I had a little land tortois when I was a kid. Not very cuddly, but interesting to watch. There are so many reptiles around here I don't see the point of keeping one as a pet.
This is what you run into on the sidewalks of Miami Beach

Re: Reptiles as pets
All our turtles are aquatic. The only one that makes me a little nervous is the snapper. Little bastard leaps out of the water at feeding time. That's a little more animation than I like lol

Re: Reptiles as pets
That big tortoise got the attention of several of us while he was meandering on a lawn right next to a very busy street. We stayed with it until animal control showed up.Alan Smithee wrote:It ran away Shale?
Actually, for a guy who doesn’t keep pets, I have some kind of turtle connection. I almost ran over this little red-eared slider while riding my bike on a Miami Beach sidewalk.
IDK how he got there, but I got him off the street and ended up keeping him for a few days before a co-worker who kept pet turtles took him home. (I was already getting attached to the little guy – and he was quite inquisitive trying to escape from the temporary home I made for him, perhaps explaining how he came to be on that sidewalk away from any fresh water)

Re: Reptiles as pets
I prefer a pet with a bit more personality, when the kids were at home however we had turtles ans snakes (how to make me shudder).
