Prosecutors: Dad murders 4-month-old girl by feeding her vodka
Mr. Keith Furlown, 20, was charged with murder and child cruelty after prosecutors said he gave his 4-month-old vodka to drink.
A 20-year-old man was indicted Thursday after he allegedly fed vodka to his 4-month-old daughter, killing her.
A DeKalb County grand jury indicted Mr. Keith Antonine Furlow for murder and second-degree cruelty to children after prosecutors said he mixed baby formula with vodka and fed it to the baby.
"It's a sad case. It's a terrible case. The child's blood alcohol concentration was very high, you know, what would be the legal limit in an adult," the DeKalb County District Attorney Robert James told WSB Radio.
"I've seen hundreds of these cases, not just as a DA, but as an assistant DA, handling them personally, and I have never seen a case where a child this young was given this much alcohol.”
The incident happened on June 8, 2011 at a home in Stone Mountain, prosecutors said.

“The baby was rushed to Egleston Children’s Hospital where she was pronounced dead by medical doctors.
A toxicology report confirmed the infant’s blood alcohol concentration level registered .11. Georgia's legal limit is .08.
It was unclear why the father allegedly gave the infant vodka, but investigators who have seen some of the worse cases.
“Some parents use it as a discipline technique, or to have their child go to sleep earlier so as not to put up with their crying, to curb that child’s behavior and to make life easier for them,” said Investigator Ms. Mary Beth Hoptle with the Fulton County Medical Examiner’s office.
“It’s beyond neglect.”
Mr. Furlow was arrested the same day. He remained in the DeKalb County jail, awaiting a bond hearing.
