If you were to take both written and road drivers tests right now (without studying), do you think you'd pass?

I studied in '62 when I got my first license and aced the written and barely passed the road test (parallel parking took points off).

Now it would probably be reversed.

The driving part, yes. The written? Shrugs (Oh well…) I like to think so.

Written I would pray so because I always make that one just by the skin of my teeth.

Driving I definitely think I would.

I would synch the driving and would probably do well enough on the written.

Yes, because my daughter recently just did driver ed/road test, and we had to do 40 hours parent road-time with her.

Seeing the driver's tests, it's easy to see why nobody knows how to drive anymore.

Driving safely is up to the maniac drivers themselves.

Maniac drivers can probably pass tests easily. It's the good drivers that have trouble cause their meticulous adherence to the rules likely hurts them more than it helps. Wink

Whatever you have learned as far as safe driving is up to the individual to apply it which, in my opinion, most drivers don't.

^^^^True, but again, I think the tests, if anything, discourage safe driving.

When I took my first driving test, two things the instructor noted was that I had clearly been driving for a while, and that I knew how to stop. Her complaints were I didn't check my mirrors enough, I didn't stop behind the stop bars, etc., and the next day when I went back, I stopped behind the bars, I checked my rear mirror every time we turned, then it was that I didn't check the side mirrors enough and I didn't check my blind spot, etc. Well I've improved on the mirrors a bit but I still don't see much point in the side mirrors...in the car I took the test in, you can't even SEE the right side mirror so I don't know what the point in checking it would do anyway.

And THEN we don't even find out how many points that is, at least I didn't anyway, instead of saying how many points is passing and how many I got she told me all the stuff I got wrong, and what I got right, and because I had somebody to help me keep working on what needed correcting, THEN she said she was going to issue my license.

I'd like to think I'd pass. My license expires on my birthday this year. All I gotta do is take another picture. I think once upon a time they used to make you take a new written test to get it renewed....thank God they don't do that anymore.

My brother had to take a new written test a couple years ago to renew his, but they sent the test and book in the mail with all the answers right in it. And when I was down there last year for my driving test, somebody came in to renew his license and I don't know what he did but he only wound up staying for a minute and getting it.

I would ace the road test and would probably get a B on the written. A lot of that stuff you know but don't really ponder, so when you get asked you gotta think for a minute.

Since the last time I got a driving lenience was 1958, and I had it only while I lived in a very rural place about 2 months, no I wouldn't pass either the written or the driving.

Judging by how people here drive I'd say they couldn't pass the driving part again. They get their licenses then forget everything they knew, Things like what yield means and speed limits. They seem to think speed limits are just suggestions, they have no clue about who goes first at stop signs, they go to yard sales and park on the wrong side of the road. They couldn't get away with the crap they do in a real city, but small town drives seem to be the worst. People are perfectly kind and considerate here until they get behind the wheel of the car.
