Rant Phone calls from people you were trying to avoid

Post by Jason B. Mon Sep 17, 2012 4:11 pm

I joined a gym 2 weeks ago and part of the joining protocol I guess was setting the new member up with a personal trainer for an assessment or whatever. I'm completely disinterested in all that. This is just them trying to railroad people into buying personal training. I don't want a personal trainer. So I deliberately missed the appointment to meet with the guy and have been avoiding him at the gym. Long story short, today the phone rings and I don't recognize the # but I was expecting an important phone call so I answer it anyway. And who is it? This guy from the gym wanting to know what was up with my missing the appointment last week and I let him talk me into rescheduling for tomorrow. Ugh. Ruined my whole afternoon.

Businesses will browbeat you like that if you let them. I think you should just tell him you're not interested.

Yeah, don't make yourself into a hostage afraid to answer the phone, etc. Just bite the bullet and tell him thanks but no thanks. The other side of the coin, IMHO is that you shouldn't ditch an appointment just because you don't want to deal with a sales pitch. Call and cancel. Or don't make the appointment in the first place.

LOL, I've had several people who tried to be slick and call me from another number because they knew I prob. wouldn't answer the phone. I just hang up on them.
