Not exactly a favorite, but you gotta give it props, for its time it was an original and Old Dark House went from being just a movie, to becoming a sub-genre in the horror and mystery movie categories.

Was this ever re-made? I think I recall seeing a movie called the Old Dark House but it was in Color and was loosely a dark comedy.

Yes, it was remade in 1963 by William Castle, starring Tom Poston, aka Mr. Bickley from Mork and Mindy. Far be it to say the original was better, the remake was just like a cousin to Murder by Death or something like that.
